(KNSI) – A pair of 2023 Corridors of Commerce construction projects will help improve traffic flow in central Minnesota. The work was announced by Governor Tim Walz on Tuesday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will allocate $78 million for a lane expansion of Interstate 94 between Albertville and Monticello. It is the next phase that will eventually widen the road to six lanes from Minneapolis to St. Cloud. Hasty to Monticello was redone recently, which took several years.

A grade separation will remove an intersection in New London involving Highway 23 and Highway 9. The work will alter the interchange to improve traffic flow. A grade separation aligns a junction so the crossings are at different heights. It should cost $33 million.

Walz says the projects are part of his vision for One Minnesota laid out in the most recent budget. He says, “We depend on our roads and highways to safely get us to our jobs, education, child care, and businesses. These projects help grow our economy and support our goal of making Minnesota the best state to live, work, and grow up in – no matter where you live.”
