(KNSI) – A St. Cloud area state representative was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Friday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Dan Wolgamott was pulled over on Highway 23 in rural Kanabec County. The trooper was responding to a complaint of a man in an SUV drinking in a liquor store parking lot. Walgamott’s vehicle matched the description given to dispatch, was missing a front license plate, had expired registration, and was weaving within its lane.

The SUV was pulled over, and Wolgamott was the only person inside. He was arrested on suspicion of DWI. Wolgamott was booked at Kanabec County Jail and released on his own recognizance.

Kanabec County Attorney Barbara McFadden told KNSI News that her office is waiting for the results from a blood alcohol test to return before possibly bringing charges. That decision is expected later in the week.

The third-term Democratic lawmaker was recently recognized as legislator of the year by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association and serves as the speaker pro tempore.
