(KNSI) – From Rosie the Riveter to the Arsenal of Democracy and on the front lines across the ocean, World War II comes alive this weekend.
The Stearns History Museum plaza and exhibit hall will look a bit different for visitors on Saturday and Sunday, says Director of Exhibits and Curator Eric Cheever.
“Our mission is to sort of transform our plaza and the museum into the mid-1940s. So, to give people an idea of what it may have looked like, smelled like, felt like to be alive during the World War Two years, both if you’re overseas in the military or if you’re home here in Stearns County,” he says.
Vehicles and reenactors will add to the experience.
Saturday night, you can dance the night away on the north end of town. Cheever explains, “The dance starts at the Whitney Senior Center, the old Clemens Hall, which is actually the old 1945 airplane hangar. Which is, we think, kind of cool since we’re doing a hangar dance, that’s kind of where that whole idea came from. That’s 7:00 to 10:00 [p.m.] And if you want dance lessons, dance lessons start at 6:30.”
You will have a chance to learn how to swing to the sounds of the era. Music will be provided by the Rock City Jazz Band. The museum will be open again on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to wrap up the weekend.
Tickets to the exhibit are $10 for nonmembers, $5 for members. A link to purchase them is here.
