(KNSI) — The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says the bodies of three swimmers missing on the Vermillion River have been recovered.

According to a press release, it says divers began searching the area Wednesday morning where the three were last seen. They found two bodies at 6:53 a.m. and the third at 7:05.

The Southern Minnesota Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names of the two adults and a 17-year-old girl. They are reportedly members of the same family from Oakdale.

Authorities say they were called to Diamond Island on Monday after three swimmers disappeared. The island is located near the confluence of the Vermillion and Mississippi Rivers. One man was fishing and saw three swimmers struggling in the water. He jumped in and pulled one person to shore and went back for the others before he too disappeared.

The group were swimming in an area with a sharp dropoff where the depth went from three feet to nine feet. The sheriff’s office says all three people were not experienced swimmers and were not wearing life jackets.
