(KNSI) – Jamie Lynn Morin pleaded guilty Thursday to 1st-degree arson charges in Stearns County District Court stemming from an incident on April 6th in Krain Township.
Judge William Cashman ordered Morin to be transferred to the Minnesota Department of Corrections to await sentencing. The hearing will be held via Zoom on September 7th.
Morin was seen walking on 248th Avenue away from a fire. She was picked up by a neighbor who had come to check for injuries. The smoke and flames had been first noticed by the neighbor’s son. Morin was driven to a patrol car and she admitted to a Stearns County Sheriff’s deputy near the scene that she started the blaze.
She had been living with the homeowner for about a month after they first met in North Dakota. Morin is from Wahpeton. Later when talking to a sergeant, she said she took a propane torch and lit clothes on fire in the laundry room. The deputy, neighbor, and sergeant all said she was acting erratically, potentially under the influence.
A Rule 20 investigation was completed last week where Morin was determined capable to stand trial.
