(KNSI) – Sartell Sabre graduate Tyler Hemmesch took the mound for the St. Cloud Rox just weeks after his senior season ended.
Hemmesch pitched one inning of relief in a high-leverage situation on Tuesday night against the Mankato Moondogs. In his Northwoods debut, the reliever threw a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. He faced four batters, allowing no hits and one walk.
At the time Hemmesch took the rubber, the game was 7-5. The Rox would tack on a couple late to win, 9-5. The Northwoods League features collegiate players and uses wooden bats. Many NCAA athletes play in the league with an eye toward making it to the professional ranks. Hemmesch has committed to the University of Minnesota for the 2024 season.
Hemmesch was a starter in high school and rode a lethal mix of low-90’s heat, a slider, and change-up to a Mr. Baseball nomination. He was also named to the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Team.
The Rox have two other pitchers from central Minnesota on the roster. Ryan Chmielewski is a sophomore from Foley who plays for Southwest Minnesota State University. Brady Posch of Sauk Rapids is a lefty hurler for the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
