(KNSI) – The first Tanner’s Team Foundation Charity Disc Golf Tournament beat its fundraising goal and is being called a huge success.

More than 75 disc golfers and sponsors helped raise thousands for the nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families that have a child sick with cancer. ” In the area, raising $8,500 for a disc golf event…that’s unheard of,” said Tournament Director Adam Gorres.

He told KNSI News that some of the tournament’s success was due to good weather and generous hearts. “The biggest thing with disc golfers is they’re going to be playing disc golf on Saturday anyways. So, if they can pay a couple of bucks and help a good cause, that’s a double positive.”

Gorres says they’re already planning for next year’s fundraiser. “I think we can get some momentum. I think we can double the number of participants and probably double the money raised. So, I think the community is ready to host a bigger event.”

The disc golf tournament occurred Saturday during Rapids River Days at Mayhew Creek Park in Sauk Rapids. The event replaced a 5K run, which benefitted Tanner’s Team Foundation.
