(KNSI) – ROCORI High School senior Will Steil has committed to North Dakota State University, where he is expected to be a defensive back for the team.
Steil still has one more year in red, white, and black playing under the Friday night lights in Cold Spring and will join the Bison as part of the 2024 recruiting class. Steil also had offers from Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota, all Football Championship Subdivision programs.
The Bison have won nine FCS national titles since 2011. They were runner-ups last season, falling to South Dakota State by a wide margin.
Steil was also offered a chance to be a preferred walk-on with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. That would have guaranteed him a roster spot on a Big Ten team. The Fargodome has a capacity of about 19,000 people. Huntington Bank Stadium, the home of the Gophers, fits over 50,000 fans.
Steil’s older brother, Jack, plays baseball at NDSU.
