(KNSI) — The St. Cloud City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday for a proposal to amend the city’s ordinances to allow the sale of beer and wine all over campus at St. Cloud State University.
Currently, SCSU can only sell alcohol on the campus south of University Drive. This includes the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, Huskey Stadium and Halenbeck Hall.
In May, SCSU reached out to ask for the expansion of the liquor license to the entire campus. University President Dr. Robbyn Wacker says they would like to offer alcohol to alumni, donors, parents and members of the public interested in activities hosted at SCSU. School officials say they don’t plan to allow alcohol to be served at student events or functions.
At this time, holding events like the Lemonade Art Fair or the annual SCSU Foundation Gala requires the university to get a special permit for each event through the city. Allowing campuswide sales would make it easier to plan events. There has also been an interest in using the Atwood Memorial Center for special events such as weddings.
The public hearing will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at St. Cloud City Hall.
