(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Community Outpost soccer program set a new record for attendance in its third year.
The four-day camp had 171 kids take part at Hawes Park in south St. Cloud. Police Sergeant and Supervisor of the Community Response Team Ryan Sayre told KNSI News they hope to keep growing the event and make connections in the community. “Our goal is over 200 kids next year. We have a pretty big email list now. We’ve had several kids that we now know by name because they’ve entered our camp three years in a row.”
Sayre explained to KNSI News the free camps are a team effort. “It is just something where everybody’s coming together to make this happen for kids. And that’s what’s great about the St. Cloud community. That’s what’s great about these St. Cloud businesses.”
He says they’ve hosted enough camps to get all the kinks worked out, making this event the smoothest. Kids learned new soccer skills and listened to guest speakers such as former professional soccer player Tony Sanneh, St. Cloud State University men’s soccer coach Sean Holmes, SCPD Police Chief Jeff Oxton and St. Cloud Fire Chief Matt Love.
The event was sponsored by Bernick’s, Chick-fil-A Crossroads Center, Costco, General Mills and Scheels.
