(KNSI) – Sartell High School’s Varsity Baseball Team finished sixth in the state in Class AAAA.

The Sabres lost to the top-seeded Rosemount Irish Tuesday in the quarterfinal round, 4-0. Senior pitcher Jack Thompson outdueled Sartell’s Tyler Phelps-Hemmesch in a battle of NCAA Division One commits.

Thompson threw a complete game, allowing only two hits. Sartell had opportunities, though, as he walked five and hit four batters.

Rosemount was aided by three Sartell errors. The Irish relied on left fielder Will Harder and designated hitter Caden Hegarty for offense. Both contributed two hits each.

The Sabres played a doubleheader in the consolation round on Wednesday at St. Anthony Village. They beat Anoka, 12-4, before dropping the fifth-place game to Lakeville South, 2-1.

Foley entered the tournament as the three seed against random draw Perham. The Falcons led, 4-1, entering the 7th inning before the Yellow Jackets evened the game and sent it into extra innings. Perham scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, Foley had the bases loaded with only one out but Alex Jennisen was called out at the plate and Trey Emmerich struck out to end the threat.

The Jackets struck the next inning, scoring three to claim a 7-4 victory. Foley centerfielder Bryce Gapinski had three hits to lead the team. Josiah Peterson reached four times. Second baseman Jaden Enerson had two RBI.

The Falcons then fell Wednesday to Belle Plaine in the consolation bracket, 7-5.
