(KNSI) – St. Cloud area State Representative Dan Wolgamott was named Legislator of the Year by the law enforcement community this weekend.
He says the recognition is gratifying but there is still more to do. Wolgamott says, “I am deeply honored to receive this award from the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. I am so grateful for the service and sacrifice of Minnesota’s 10,400 police and peace officers, and will continue to partner with them to pass laws that support law enforcement and increase public safety in our communities.”
The MPPOA handed out the honor based on several factors. The primary one was a bill authored by Wolgamott that allows a law enforcement officer to assume they contracted COVID-19 on the job, making them eligible for worker’s compensation.
Other initiatives spearheaded by the legislator include state funding to improve officer recruitment and retainment, mental health treatment, and college tuition relief.
