(KNSI) – Minnesota’s rich gymnastics history is helping it land a coveted upcoming event.
Minneapolis has been named the host for the 2024 Olympic Team Trials, USA Gymnastics Championship, and more. It will run from June 22nd through the 30th next year. Some events will take place at the Minneapolis Convention Center with the trials at the Target Center, home of the National Basketball Association’s Minnesota Timberwolves.
USA Gymnastics President Li Li Leung says, “With world-class venues in a compact urban environment and an incredible track record of successfully hosting large-scale events, Minneapolis is an ideal location. We look forward to hosting fans from across the country for an unforgettable nine days of gymnastics competition and celebration.”
Suni Lee is a Twin Cities native. She captured a gold medal at the last Olympic games in Tokyo. Lee notched top honors in the individual all-around. She was part of the silver-medal-winning United States team and got a bronze in the uneven bars event. She is expected to be in the mix again in 2024.
Gymnastics at the Olympic level features three different categories of competition, including acrobatic, rhythmic, and trampoline and tumbling. Also scheduled for next June is the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show and Gymfest.
