(KNSI) – The Cop House Fishing Crew took off to Lake Pepin on Friday, June 9th.
St. Cloud Police Department officers and St. Cloud Fire Department personnel teamed up to help put nine area kids out on the water. International Association of Fire Fighters Local 464 members provided equipment and boats.
The group was able to reel in a big walleye for the first time. SCPD officer Andrew Gronli says the experience was “something none of us will soon forget!”
The fishing crew was started in 2020. It is a five-month program that begins with learning fundamental skills like how to cast and use the equipment. It wraps up with expeditions to sites across Minnesota.
Lake Pepin is located along the course of the Mississippi River on the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Past trips included Snowbank Lodge in Ely.
Gronli is one of the organizers of the fishing crew. He has been part of the SCPD Community Engagement division since 2019.
