(KNSI) – A Wednesday afternoon fire damaged the New Ulm home of Minnesota First District Congressman Brad Finstad.
In a release, he says he was in Washington, D.C. when flames broke out in a basement bedroom at about 3:50. Finstad says his wife and children were all able to get out safely, along with the family’s pets. He says the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and New Ulm Police Department rushed to the scene, along with the New Ulm and Hanska Fire Departments. They were able to quickly contain the blaze in less than 20 minutes.
The lower level suffered heavy smoke damage with light damage to the rest of the house.
Finstad says, “The past few days have been a reminder of how blessed we are to live in a wonderful community like New Ulm. The kind prayers and outpouring of support from friends, family, and neighbors has been overwhelming. From myself, Jackie, and the entire Finstad family, thank you.”
