(KNSI) — Waite Park’s new top cop took the oath of office on Monday night as the city administrator swore in Police Chief Anthony Reznicek.

The chief spoke to KNSI News minutes after raising his hand and said his biggest challenge would be filling five department openings. “We’re going to continue going through with job fairs [and] through the main law enforcement producing schools in the state. [We’ll] Get out there and start recruiting and try to make sure all of our officers out there are finding their friends and trying to get them on board.”

Waite Park has 16 officers with room for 22. He says there are no big initiatives planned at this time. “We’re just going to take it one day, and one week at a time. And do the very best we can and as other things come up, we’ll address those.”

Reznicek has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and spent five years as a school resource officer and investigator with Waite Park. Before that, he was a police officer in East Grand Forks. The former sergeant is also a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and served two combat tours.

Reznicek spent 18 years in law enforcement, including the last ten in Waite Park. He was promoted to replace Police Chief Dave Bentrud, who retired last month.
