(KNSI) — Central Minnesota’s summer festival season kicks off today with Waite Park’s Spass Tag Family Fun Fest.

Volunteer Committee Vice President Margie Wolf told KNSI News there’s something for everyone to do between June 5th and 9th. “We have a full five days of fun for kids of all ages. We have a couple of new events going on because we have our theme, which is Up in the Air.”

The theme comes from this year’s movie in the park, Disney Pixar’s Up. In honor of the film, there will be kite flying and free rides from Waite Park to St. Cloud State University’s planetarium to learn about the stars. Other popular events include the medallion hunt, the parade, kids’ day and the car show.

The Waite Park Spasstag Family Fun Fest, once upon a time known as Spass Tag – which is a German word that translates to fun day – has been going on for 57 years. Wolf says it has been such a long-standing tradition because they stick with a variety of events to keep it special and unique. “I just think it’s because there’s an event that takes place every day that people can get involved with. And if you don’t make it one day maybe you can make it the next.”
