(KNSI) – Police arrested an 18-year-old man after he allegedly fired a handgun at a vehicle with people inside in a St. Cloud neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

Commander Lori Ellering talked to KNSI News at the scene. “Somebody did fire some shots at the intersection here at 16th Avenue and 13th Street South. We have one suspect in custody. He left the scene. Nobody was injured in the incident.”

Officers were called around 1:50, forcing nearby South Junior High and St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton School to take action. “Two area schools were temporarily put in ‘shelter in place’ just as a precaution. That was lifted as soon as we had the suspect in custody.”

Sixteenth Avenue was briefly closed while investigators canvassed the scene and talked with witnesses and neighbors.

Police say the alleged shooter and the victims knew each other. The St. Cloud man was taken to jail on suspicion of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Officials say there is no other threat to the community.

No motive for the shooting was released. The incident remains under investigation.

KNSI News does not typically name suspects until they’re formally charged.
