(KNSI) — An air quality alert has been issued for central Minnesota Tuesday.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says the alert is due to ozone pollution. It is in effect from noon to 8:00 p.m. The Air Quality Index will reach orange or unhealthy for sensitive groups category.
Officials say air quality is expected to be the lowest during the afternoon. Winds out of the south are carrying fine particle pollution. Sunny skies, warm temperatures, and low humidity will allow these pollutants to react in the air to produce ground-level ozone.
That will make breathing difficult for people with lung disease (including asthma), heart disease, children and older adults. They may experience negative health effects and are asked to limit prolonged or heavy exertion and keep their windows shut to avoid getting smoke inside.
