(KNSI) — A 37-year-old Richmond man is facing charges after allegedly shaking a child and holding her under water.
According to the criminal complaint, Monday morning, police were called to a home by a woman who said Gregory Burg was inside and had been acting erratically all day, saying, “I forgive your sins” and claiming he was God. Burg also kept telling the woman she was a terrible person and that only he and his mother are the ones who know he is God, and they are hiding it from others. At one point, she went upstairs and saw Burg holding the girl, identified in the complaint as being born in 2019, saying, “I forgive your sins.” She said she was worried, so she began recording and captured Burg with the child next to the bathtub, which had water in it. He then said, “Ok mom, you ready for this?” and then held the child under the water and was shaking her.
The woman told police she was afraid he was trying to drown the girl and that he was known to use methamphetamine. Burg allegedly told officers he had taken THC edibles but felt fine.
Police say Burg was still acting erratically when they spoke with him and explained he put the child in the tub because she was “very dirty and needed to be cleansed,” according to the criminal complaint.
Burg was charged with felony domestic assault, felony malicious punishment of a child and gross misdemeanor child endangerment.
