(KNSI) – Seventh District Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach says a student at Central Minnesota Christian School is the first-place winner in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition.
Ashlyn’s painting is a close-up of a hummingbird’s face and eye. Titled “Earth’s Little Wonder,” it will hang for the next year in the U.S. Capitol.

Second place comes from BOLD High School. Gage’s sketch shows a trombone sitting on top of an open instrument case with sheet music scattered in the foreground. It will be displayed in Fischbach’s Washington, D.C. office.

The two honorable mention choices will hang in Fischbach’s Minnesota offices. “Fated Clovers” shows an old-time barn dance. The piece, by Lola from Perham, will be displayed in Willmar. Alyssa of Sacred Heart School put brush to canvas to create a winter landscape. It is destined for Moorhead.

There were about 40 art pieces entered in total. Fischbach says, “Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition. We received so many wonderful submissions. It is obvious that we have some very talented artists across Minnesota’s 7th District and I look forward to see where your talents take all of you.”
