(KNSI) – St. Cloud Technical & Community College is giving students a chance to hone their skills when most kids are kicking back in the sun.
Starting in June, the campus is hosting five summer camps for elementary, middle and high school students.
Introduction to Tools is for students going into 3rd through 12th grade. Kids will become handy in naming common tools and how to use them. Campers will also complete a project to take home. The 3rd through 5th grade camp is July 6th, 8:15 to 11:30 a.m., and costs $25. The 6th through 12th grade camp is July 6th, 12:15 to 3:30 p.m., costs $25.
NITRO-X Camp is geared toward students going into 6th through 9th grade. Kids will learn how vehicles work, tour local industry businesses, learn about transportation technology careers, and build R/C cars. Attendees will learn about the auto body, automotive and diesel mechanic programs. The week will conclude with an R/C car race for family and friends to attend. The camp is held at the SCTCC Transportation Labs. The camp will be held June 12th through the 15th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, costing $250.
Following up on the recent robotics craze in central Minnesota, the college hosts a Students, Technology, and Robots (STAR) Camp. Kids entering 3rd through 12th grade can learn how robots work by building one for a game challenge. Attendees will also learn about SCTCC’s manufacturing programs. They will tour a local manufacturing business during the camp and learn about potential careers. The week will conclude with a robotics demonstration and competition for family and friends. The 6th through 12th grade camp will be held June 26th through the 30th, 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the cost is $250. The camp for 3rd through 5th grade kids will be held July 10th through the 14th, from 11:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The cost is $125.

St. Cloud State University
Future healthcare workers can get a jumps start at Scrubs Camp. The collaborative camp combines local businesses, the city of St. Cloud, SCSU, and SCTCC for students entering 7th through 12th grade. Kids spend three days learning a number of healthcare careers like nursing, laboratory sciences, social work, alternative therapies, and more. There are hands-on activities facilitated by healthcare professionals and SCTCC faculty members and field trips to learn more about these careers. The camp will be held July 25th through the 27th on both the SCTCC and SCSU campuses. The cost is $300.
The Cyclone Volleyball Camp is for students going into 6th to 8th grade to bump, set and spike their way through summer. The camp will focus on passing, setting, approach, hitting, serving, blocking, footwork, ball control and team communication. SCTCC volleyball coaches and current volleyball team members oversee the camp at the Whitney Center. Campers get a t-shirt and game pass. The camp will be held June 20th through the 22nd, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $90.
