(KNSI) — The Sartell-St. Stephen School District has picked an interim superintendent as they take time to search for a permanent replacement.

In March, current Superintendent Jeff Ridlehoover announced he was leaving the district to take the same role with the Rockford Area Public Schools.

During Wednesday’s work session, the board recommended a one-year contract for retired Waseca School District Superintendent Thomas Lee.

School Board Chair Matt Moehrle talked with KNSI News about what stood out. “He has a wealth of experience, both in the superintendent and principal positions at multiple school districts. He came highly recommended. I’ve talked to former board members and board chairs who worked with him. And he comes from a district that is not too much smaller than ours. So it’s set up pretty similarly.”

Lee has more than 40 years of education experience.

Moehrle said it was important to the board that they found someone who could hit the ground running. “He will be someone who can jump into the job, know it already and just keep things rolling, which was always the plan. And then, he’s hoping to help out in any way he can to get us to the point where we’re in a good spot for choosing our next superintendent.” Moehrle says Lee can use his vast experience to help pick a permanent replacement.

Contract negations with Lee will begin in the next couple of days. The recommendation will go to the school board for approval at their May 15th meeting. If approved, Lee would begin in the interim role on July 1st.
