(KNSI) – The alleged mastermind behind a murder-for-hire plot in Sauk Rapids has been sentenced.

Maria Lorraine Foster was ordered to spend 15 years in prison on Friday. The 51-year-old was also given credit for 250 days already served. In February, she pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting first-degree attempted murder. A charge of aiding and abetting first-degree assault was dismissed.

Foster devised a plan to kill her husband with two others, Christian David Kane and his wife, Katrina Hunt.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a stabbing on the 1000 block of Benedict Drive in August of 2022. The victim told police he was in his garage when Foster asked him to sit in a specific chair as she moved directly across from him. The victim says Kane then came from behind the chair and stabbed him.

During the assault, Kane suffered a cut and needed to go to the hospital. Police found him there, and he told police that Foster asked him to go to the home to kill her husband because he was allegedly abusive. Kane said Foster promised he could have her husband’s things and move into the home with Hunt.

Foster made a similar statement to the police. Hunt told police she knew about the plan to kill Foster’s husband and had sent Kane information about where Foster lived and when the victim would be home.

Kane and Hunt have already been sentenced for their roles in the crime. Kane was ordered to serve 15 years in prison, and Hunt recived three years.
