(KNSI) — On Monday night, Sauk Rapids City Council heard from Administrator Ross Olson about a new policy at Riverside Terrace that will be implemented for the 2023 season.
Last year, the restrooms were open to the public, but that is being changed to the restrooms being open only during events. The measure was not voted on, but Olson says it comes with support from members with whom he discussed the policy change individually.
Olson says the change is due to about 15-20 incidents reported by city staff and the Sauk Rapids Police Department where homeless individuals were using the bathrooms as a place to sleep and refusing to leave. On occasion, there was property damage that occurred.
A porta-potty will be placed in the parking lot as a replacement.
The 214-person Riverside Terrace building is used for weddings, corporate functions, and more. While it is rented out, members of those private parties can use the restrooms.
Olson tells KNSI News that The Lookout at the Clearing, about a quarter mile away, has a section with two individual bathrooms that will remain available to everyone.
