(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Police Department is investigating after a dead body was found along a walking path in Heritage Park Tuesday morning.

The man’s identity is not known but police say they had contact with him Monday afternoon. According to investigators, officers responded to a parking lot in the 200 block of 33rd Avenue South around 5:00 for a report of a person possibly using drugs inside a car. The officers were told by the man that he had no identification and they did not believe the name he gave was an accurate one. They tried to arrest him and he took off running. The man shrugged off a Taser shock, climbed a fence, and entered Heritage Park where he disappeared into the woods on the southern side.

Police used a drone to search for him and a perimeter was set up around the park Monday until it was called off at 5:35 p.m. All officers were given the description of the man and told to continue to be on the look out for him.

In a press release, the department says the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to lead the investigation due to the interaction between police and the man before his body was found.
