(KNSI) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says it has taken another step toward building a modernized electronic license system.
The DNR and Minnesota IT Services chose S3 to build the system for boating, fishing, hunting and RV licenses. The agency says S3 is a conservation company that has built systems for other states, including Arkansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.
Licenses can still be bought at bait, convenience and sporting goods stores, but the online system allows users to buy and store hunting and fishing licenses on their phones. RV, boat and registration services will still be sent by mail, online, or in person at a deputy registrar’s office or the DNR license center in St. Paul.
The process is expected to take around two years to complete, with an official launch date sometime in early 2025.
