(KNSI) – A dedicated volunteer and community member has been named the 2023 Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year for his decades of service.

Dennis Wahl will be recognized by the Sauk Rapids City Council meeting on May 8th at 6:00 p.m. According to the selection committee, the charitable work Wahl has done – and continues to do – impacts the community of Sauk Rapids and the many visitors who enjoy the activities he’s involved with.

Elizabeth Pederson and Kirsten Stiegel nominated Wahl for his work with the area’s 4H clubs and at Living Waters Lutheran Church. He is known for helping with a fall hayride, Christmas services in the Pederson Barn, setting up the Living Nativity scene at Coborn’s parking lot, summer outdoor Bible school, and the prayer labyrinth.

Officials say you will find him ushering nearly every Sunday, maintaining the church property, setting up outdoor services, youth bonfires, and offering help whenever called.

Pederson says, “Dennis is always doing something extra, beyond request, and with relish and gusto.” Stiegel acknowledged, “Dennis has been an amazing part of our community for many years, an outstanding citizen, and worthy of this award.”
