(KNSI) — The Minnesota Legislature unanimously passed the state’s disaster response funding package, sending it flying through both chambers and onto Governor Tim Walz’s desk, who immediately signed it into law.
The bill allocates $40 million to the Disaster Assistance Contingency Account expedites assistance to communities burdened with damages to public property and infrastructure like roads, utilities, and public buildings. Flood waters are rising around the state, and flood warnings are in place for the Sauk, Mississippi, Crow, St. Croix, Rum and Snake Rivers.
The account was created in 2014, eliminating the need for the Legislature to convene, sometimes in a special session, each time a disaster was declared.
