(KNSI) — Due to flooding, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has closed several roads around the state, including one near Richmond.
Highway 22 between mile markers 164 and 165 is closed because of water over the roadway by the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes. Drivers need to find an alternate route. The best options are County Road 43 or County Road 49 to get around it. MnDOT did not say when it would reopen. Grizzly Lane in Sartell was closed at 13th Avenue North earlier this week because of flooding. That has since cleared, but police say the road is still flooded at 15th Avenue North.
Other roads affected include Highway 93 between Highway 19 in Henderson and Highway 169 south of Le Sueur. That road is closed, and a detour is in place, taking drivers onto 169. Highway 9, where it crosses the Wild Rice River just south of Ada, is also closed. Roads around the Mississippi River in St. Paul and Highway 30 through Carver County between Lester Prairie and New Germany are closed due to flooding.
Turn around if you’re driving and come across water on the road. The road underneath may be washed out. Also, MNDoT says never to try and drive or walk through moving water. As little as six inches of running water can knock someone off their feet. As little as six to nine inches of water is enough to float a car and carry it away.
