(KNSI) – The Mall of America will look more like an army base on Friday afternoon. The Minnesota National Guard Child and Youth Program is teaming up with the Bloomington landmark to celebrate Month of the Military Child.
The 9th annual Purple Up Open House is for military-connected kids who have to endure long deployments overseas for the ones they love most, their mom and dad, plus those with parents in the National Guard and Reserve. The event will feature character appearances and rides at Nickelodeon Universe, face painting, giveaways, treats, and a custom Build-A-Bear workshop session.
Mall of America Director of Community Relations Sara Durhman says, “At our core, the mall is about creating memorable experiences and leading from the heart. A large number of our team members are veterans or active members of the Reserve and Guard. They lead with heart and go above and beyond every day. They are key to our success.”
The state has 15,000 children with at least one parent serving in the National Guard or Reserve.
