(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Rox Baseball Club says its reading program is a grand slam this school year.

A record number of students are taking part from 43 elementary schools in 26 cities. The baseball team and corporate partners collaborate on the program, now in its 12th year. It runs for four weeks through the month of April.

With 16,102 participants, Rox Co-Owner Scott Schreiner says it takes a lot to pull the program off. “It’s truly a team effort between not only the students and Rox staff, but teachers, parents, school support staff, and administrators. Of course, the program isn’t where it is today without Magnifi Financial.”

Each reader that hits their weekly goal has a chance to win a prize. Other awards are set aside for teachers for classroom books and one school will get $1,000 to upgrade its library. Magnifi sponsors the donations.

Senior Vice President of Retail Banking Gary Meyer says literacy is important. “Encouraging students to read outside the classroom is essential for developing creativity, imagination, and communication skills, which will equip them for a successful future.”

Students in the program come from 770 separate classrooms.
