(KNSI) — The 2023 construction season around St. Cloud is set to be a busy one, according to city officials, and there will be a transportation summit Thursday for residents who have questions.
The event is on April 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall inside the council chambers. Representatives from the City of St. Cloud, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, and county and area planning organizations will be available.
There are several road construction projects scheduled to start this spring. The city says drivers should be prepared for multiple road and lane closures and detour routes throughout the construction season.
Major city road projects include replacing underground utilities and surface improvements on Cooper Avenue from University Drive South to 22nd Street South. That is set to get underway this month and wrap up in October. Surface improvements and underground utility replacement will happen on Wilson Avenue between Highway 23 and just past 1st Street Northeast. Work there starts in June of 2023 and finishes in October. West St. Germain Street will also see the replacement of underground utilities and surface improvements between 10th and 12th Avenue and along 11th Avenue North from West St. Germain Street to 1st Street North. That work is expected to start in July and continue through October. Approximately 15 miles of roads around St. Cloud city limits are scheduled to undergo milling and overlay throughout the summer, starting in June and wrapping in October.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will tear apart and reconstruct the interchange at Highway 10 and Highway 23. Learn more about that project by clicking here. That work starts this month and goes through April 2025.
Highway 301 will undergo reconstruction between Highway 10 and Minnesota Boulevard between April and June.
Stearns County projects include the County Road 75 resurfacing between Cooper Avenue and Highway 15; a start or end date has yet to be announced.
County Road 63 will be getting surface improvements between County Road 8 to the Park and Ride Lot. That will start in May and go through June.
The city has started a blog with an interactive map to inform people of road closures and updates. Find that by clicking here.
