(KNSI) – Opening Day, delayed.

The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that fans will have to wait an extra 24 hours to see the hometown nine on the diamond at Target Field. First pitch is now scheduled for Friday at 3:10 p.m. Other home opener festivities such as Breakfast on the Plaza have also been moved a day later.

The National Weather Service is forecasting partly sunny skies and 49 degrees for the game. Saturday will be mostly sunny and reach 61 in the Twin Cities.

Most Major League Baseball teams schedule an off day after their first home contest for situations like this. It pushes the game well away from the winter weather currently rolling across the state.

Minnesota is 4-0 and finishes up a series in Miami on Wednesday. They’ll host the defending World Series champion Astros to open the home portion of the schedule.
