(KNSI) – Stearns County Commissioners signed a proclamation on Tuesday setting aside a day to honor animals that help people heal.
The board has declared April 30th as National Therapy Animal Day in Stearns County. Stearns County Attorney’s Office Therapy Dog Nova and her handler, paralegal/victim witness Coordinator Keli Trautman, were on hand for the occasion.
Nova and Trautman help victims and witnesses at the county attorney’s office feel safe, supported, cared for, and comforted when talking with authorities about difficult subjects. County officials say Nova has become an invaluable part of their work.
Nova became a member of the county attorney’s staff in June of 2021. The K9 graduated from the Helping Paws program in October 2020 and is certified for all public interactions.
