(KNSI) – For many, a trip to the Great Outdoors for camping is a way to leave modern electronics behind. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hoping that you have your smartphone around, though, at least to pay.
The agency is teaming up with the Yodel app to modernize admissions at state forests and other DNR facilities. Campsites do not have a staffed office and using a phone will help cut down on theft. Staff say the current system relies on self-pay envelops that are dropped off in collection boxes on site. If someone is looking to steal from those, it could endanger employees and campers alike.
You can still mail in payment for sites where cell service is unavailable. The entrance office at state parks is another option for payment and use of the online reservation system is encouraged.
A guide for the full complement of payment options is here.
