(KNSI) – Trees will be coming down soon at Bend in the River Regional Park.

Starting on April 10th, a new forestry management project will thin selected pine tree groves on the east side of the Benton County park. About 20-30% of the trees will be removed. While the work is ongoing, a portion of Bend in the River will be closed.

Motorists on County Road 55 should be prepared for logging trucks to be active in the area. Large equipment will be operating near the road. The goal is to return the park to what it looked like before farming dominated the landscape.

In some cases, the stands will be taken out entirely where they have acted as wind breaks and are nearing the expected life for the pines. A commercial logger and forester will be on-site to oversee the project.
