(KNSI) – The phone lines are ringing, but unfortunately, local courses are unable to give a great answer as to when the golfing season will begin.

A Territory official says it could clear up in ten days or we might be looking at May. Director of Golf Chad Seim says there is one big positive working in the club’s favor that may allow play earlier than you might think.

“The one plus is there’s not a lot of frost. So once the snow starts to melt, that ground should absorb a lot of it and we’re pretty sandy soil out here. So, it shouldn’t take that long once we start to get some weather. But, yeah, we’re at the mercy of Mother Nature. We need some warmer temps and some sun.”

KNSI has reached out to several area courses. Representatives from Blackberry Ridge in Sartell say it is too early to know when play might resume but they are hoping for May 1st.

A late start to the golf year can turn into a blessing in disguise. Seim says wintertime is the perfect opportunity to take on “projects.” He says it allows for a fundamental transformation of a player’s swing and overall game that you can’t do in-season.

“People come to us in the wintertime and I always say the first thing, ‘Are you going on a trip tomorrow?’ And if they say no, I say, ‘All right, let’s get working.’ So, when we teach in the winter, we’re digging into the root causes of the issues in your golf swing and that’s the first thing we try to identify. And then from there, we say, ‘All right, we’re gonna fix this until we check that box off.'”

Once a problem is sorted out, Seim and his clients move to the next issue on the list. Seim says to try and process all of the information thrown at you creates too much mental baggage if you’re heading out to play the next day. He likens it to working a miracle.

Territory Golf Club is located in east St. Cloud, near the airport.
