(KNSI) – Two central Minnesota disc golf courses will get a chance to shine on Sunday, May 21st.
Tim Mackey, a local enthusiast, says it will be a Professional Disc Golf Association event, which will bring in some of the best players across the state and region. One participant that has already signed up lives in Ames, Iowa. Mackey runs through the details.
“It’s called The Gauntlet and it will be held at two different courses. The first round will be played at Sportsman’s Park in Clearwater and then the second round, players will travel to Hidden Lake in St Augusta for the second round 18 holes at that course.”
The Gauntlet is free for spectators. The first round begins at 8:30 a.m. Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 and then the second round starts at 1:00 p.m.
The Tanner’s Team Foundation is hosting a disc golf fundraiser for the first time this summer. Mackey says the event will happen at Mayhew Creek Park on June 24th, near Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.
Tanner’s Team helps families pay for the unexpected expenses that come with a child who has cancer, from spending the night at a hotel nearby the treatment center to eating out and taking clothing to the laundromat.
“Trying to raise money for cancer victims, helping families in need. Whether it’s expenses or gas money or food or whatever.”
The tournament is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. More details will be announced at a later time.
Mackey says the St. Cloud Disc Golf Club hopes to get its spring league underway later this week but more wintry weather is on the way, which may delay things.
