(KNSI) – During a one-day fundraiser, the United Way of Central Minnesota and Scheels in St. Cloud crushed their goal.

Scheels helped the nonprofit raise over $47,000 on Thursday by matching donations. People gave at the store and online, with Scheels doubling and even tripling donations during special hours.

“We could not have done it without all of our amazing donors who came through in our power hour and really just pushed it ahead in that last hour and a half,” said United Way Director of Marketing and Communications Sam Switzer.

The proceeds will go to support the many programs of the United Way.

United Way Vice President of Development and Engagement Jessica Houle also wanted to say thank you. “To everybody who donated, we got awesome donations today that put us over the top. You know who you are. Thank you so much.”

The total of $47,000 was 146% of their initial goal. The organization’s goal for the one-day event was around $32,000. The United Way is planning to do the event again in 2024.
