(KNSI) – Sauk Rapids City Council will explore studying emergency road repairs on the north end of downtown next week.

4th Avenue North from 2nd Street to 8th Street and the road segments just west were originally scheduled to be reconstructed in 2032 as part of the city’s Capital Improvement Plan. They were already rated as poor and staff says this spring has seen the roads deteriorate to the point that they must be dealt with now.

The work would be paid for through assessments, bonding, franchise fees, and sales tax. The budget for the new section of repairs is estimated at $750,000. The city council must authorize a feasibility study before the stretch can be rolled into the 2023 overlay project. It is included in the consent agenda for Monday’s meeting.

The current overlay budget for 2023 is already $4.2 million. In the map included, the new construction is highlighted in yellow. The blue, green, and red sections represent the existing plan.
