(KNSI) – March is National Nutrition Month, and the experts say it’s a great chance to get back on that New Year’s resolution if you strayed.
Registered Dietitian and St. Cloud State University Professor Kari De Fouw talked with KNSI News and told us it’s never a bad time to make good, healthy life changes. “So each person gets to decide when is a good time to start changing their habits and get back on track. But we have to remember it’s not all or nothing, every little, every little change can make a difference.”
She also recommends joining a gym to start exercising and eating a vegetable serving this week because those little habits will add up.
Du Fouw explained people should also be eating balanced meals. “If you think of your plate at each meal, ideally half of that plate should be fruits and vegetables. And then, about a quarter of it should be the protein and then a quarter the starch.”
De Fouw said healthy eating should be part of an overall lifestyle. That includes being active, moving your body, managing stress, sleeping well at night, and feeling your best. Experts say it can take months to develop those good habits.
National Nutrition Month began in 1973. Each year, there’s a different topic; this year, the theme is fuel for the future.
