HS Basketball: Becker upset in Class AAA Semifinal

Girls’ Basketball

Class AAA Semifinal

#4 Stewartville 60, #1 Becker 59: The Bulldogs season ends with a 26-4 overall record. Becker looked like the favorites for nearly the entire game and at one point led by 11 over the scrappy Tigers. Stewartville senior guard Haylie Strum played injured. She had to leave Wednesday’s quarterfinal with a sprained ankle. On Thursday, she limped through warmups but once the tip came, she shined. Strum finished with 13 points and four assists to be the sparkplug for the Tigers. The Becker loss denies the Bulldogs a fifth-straight state championship game appearance.

#2 Benilde-St. Margaret’s beat #3 Alexandria in the other semifinal, 70-51. The Cardinals shot only 23% from the field in the second half as Benilde-St. Margaret’s pulled away.

Class AA Semifinal

#3 Albany tangles with #2 Goodhue Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at Williams Arena.

Boys’ Basketball

#1 Albany vs. #3 Milaca for a Section 6AA Championship at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Cloud State University.
