(KNSI) — Enrollment begins Wednesday for the 2023 Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Walk-In Access Program.

The program pays landowners to allow public hunting, and the DNR is looking for parcels at least 40 acres in size with high-quality cover. Program Coordinator Amber Knutson says landowners can get paid $18 per acre, meaning the program benefits both hunters and landowners. “Hunters like the program becuase they can purchase a $3 endorsement on their license, and no contact is required with the landowner. Landowners like it because they get paid to allow public access and no additional liability insurance is required since they are covered under state statute.”

Knutson says the program remains successful because of respectful hunters who follow rules and regulations. Walk in access will be available in more than 40 Minnesota counties for the coming year.
