(KNSI) — Several people credited with saving a man’s life received the Sartell Police Department’s Lifesaving Award at Monday’s City Council meeting.

On the morning of February 7th, Sartell staff member Travis Pinney came across a man lying on the floor at the Sartell St. Stephen School District Office and alerted another staff member, Stephanie Wruck, who called 911.

Officer Shelby Lane arrived on scene and saw Elyse Euteneuer and Preston Dilley already providing CPR with manual chest compressions and had given him two shocks with an automated external defibrillator, but he was still unresponsive. Officer Lane began providing oxygen, and Officer Adam Vande Vrede also arrived on the scene and began helping with CPR. Lieutenant Kelly Mader arrived with Mayo Ambulance and set up a Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System, or LUCAS device, which does automatic chest compressions on a patient in cardiac arrest. He was shocked two more times before regaining a pulse and began to breathe on his own.

The man was able to be at the ceremony to thank those who saved his life.
