(KNSI) – Sherburne County’s top law enforcement official says he opposes proposed gun control laws being debated in St. Paul.
Lawmakers are looking to expand criminal background checks to all gun purchases, including sales between private parties and at gun shows. The other proposal would allow authorities to temporarily confiscate guns from people who are found to be a danger to themselves or others.
Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott released a letter on Thursday asking residents to contact their local Senators and House members to encourage them to vote against two bills being discussed at the Capitol.
Brott says he has actively opposed these laws since he was first elected in 2009 and will continue to do so. He says residents have a right to know where elected officials stand on the issue. He encouraged anyone with a strong opinion on the matter to contact their representatives.
