(KNSI) –
Boys’ Hockey
Class A State Quarterfinal
#1 Warroad 5, St. Cloud Cathedral 1: Crusader forward Joey Gillespie knotted the game at one roughly midway through the second period as Cathedral was able to match the undefeated Warriors for most of the game. Gillespie was able to take a rebound and knock it in off Warroad goaltender Hampton Slukynsky’s back from the side of the net. It just caromed across the goal line to light the lamp.
The top line for the Warriors eventually took over. A powerplay goal at 16:46 of the second gave the favorites a 2-1 lead. It was one of three for Carson Pilgrim on the night, giving him 48 for the season.
Cathedral plays Thursday at noon in the consolation bracket against Northfield Academy at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
