(KNSI) – The Minnesota House is proposing $10 million for renovations to the Municipal Athletic Complex and $7.5 million to rebuild a heavily used Stearns County Road.
The House of Representatives bill would give St. Cloud a grant to design, build and furnish the municipal athletic complex. The money would be used to expand and improve the ice arenas only. If signed by the governor, the funds would be available until December 31st, 2028. The changes would help keep the building a regional sports facility.
In 2020, St. Cloud was given $10 million for improvements to the ice arena and baseball fields; however, that money depended on matching funds. Residents voted down a half-cent sales tax proposal in November that would have provided the matching funds.
Stearns County is looking at getting funds to rebuild 30th Avenue North (Town Line Road) between Stearns County Road 5 in St. Stephen and Stearns County Road 4 in Sartell. The funds would pay for engineering and construction. Lawmakers say the road is one of the most used in the county and is in desperate need of repair.
