(KNSI) — St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids and Waite Park have all issued snow emergencies as several inches of snow blanketed central Minnesota this week, and more is on the way through Thursday.
The St. Cloud snow emergency goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, February 23rd and remains in effect for 72 hours. It may be extended or rescinded as necessary, depending on the weather. Parking regulations will be enforced, and vehicles will be ticketed and towed starting at 1:00 a.m.
The Sauk Rapids snow emergency is in effect from now through 7:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25th, unless rescinded earlier to facilitate the necessary removal of snow from city streets. During a snow emergency, it is illegal to park or leave standing any vehicle on any public street, avenue, or alley until the roadway has been fully and completely cleared from curb to curb. Any vehicle illegally parked will be towed.
Waite Park’s snow emergency begins at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22nd and goes through 7:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25th. The declaration was made during Tuesday night’s city council meeting. Any vehicle parked on the street during the emergency will be ticketed and towed. City Administrator Shaunna Johnson said it was the first time she could recall the city declaring a snow emergency.
