(KNSI) – Nothing says date night better than ballroom dancing. Each dance is like a cozy, quiet conversation between partners, making it a perfect activity for Valentine’s Day.

The St. Cloud area has a ballroom dancing club. It meets on Saturdays at the Sartell Sta-Fit location at 805 CR 120. Board Member Colleen Seelen says the group has picked a special dance for February to tie in to the love-themed holiday.

“This month is rumba and it is such a great, sultry dance for Valentine’s Day. And then next month is tango.”

Each meeting begins at 5:30 with beginner dance lessons. Seelen says that the sessions as a whole progress as the month goes on. The fourth or fifth session will be more advanced than the first, no matter what dance is being focused on.

Instructors come from within the group or as far away as the Twin Cities area. Additionally, the group puts on regular dances, which are open to members at a discount.

Seelen says the group’s roster runs the gamut from young to old, with a new generation embracing the hobby. She chalks the longevity of ballroom dancing to the sense of place it creates for those who enjoy it.

“With the ballroom dance, we do have that social connection there is that hand-to-hand connection and you don’t necessarily have to speak to each other, it’s that movement.”

A 12-month membership is just $35.
